The Most Popular Types of Golf Competitions and Scoring Systems

Sep 8, 2019

Many people who know little about golf believe that it is a boring game played by old people. However, that’s far from the truth. Golf is a dynamic and versatile game, as there are many different types of games and scoring systems you can play and use. You can even earn bonuses, much like in casino games found in the Casino Room.

So, if you are one of those people who shy away from golf whenever they have a chance to play, it’s time to change that. Below, you will see the most popular types of competitions and scoring systems that should change your opinion.

Stroke Play

Stroke play is the most popular and most common type of golf competition that is usually played at professional tournaments. In this game, all players or teams take a shot at all 18 holes. The total number of strokes required by a player is counted, and the person or team with the lowest total number wins.

Match Play

In match play, two teams or two players take shots at each hole as a separate event or round. The player/team with the lower number of strokes on a particular hole wins that contest. If the two players have an equal number of shots, the hole is halved. The total number of hole wins is counted and the winner is determined.

Foursome is a type of golf game played by two teams of two players, four players in total. Players of one team take turns hitting the ball until they pot it. One player has the first shot on odd holes and the other on even holes, regardless of who made the last shot. This game can be played under both stroke and match rules.

Four Ball

Four Ball is similar to Foursome, but each player plays with their own ball. They compete separately for the holes, and their results are added together at the end of each round. The team with the better stroke count wins the hole. Moreover, the team with more holes wins the competition.

Scramble is one of the most dynamic and most interesting types of golf competitions. It is played by teams of two, three, or four players, all of whom tee off on each hole. Players then choose which ball got closest to the hole and continue playing from that spot. This continues until the hole is finished.

This is a type of golf competition in which each hole is awarded a set amount of points or money. Players or teams can win these by winning the holes outright. If the best score for a particular hole is achieved by more teams or players, the winnings are carried over to the next hole, making it even more valuable than the previous one. In case the result is a draw on the final hole, the players or teams still in the game will take turns at that hole until one of them wins the hole outright.

As you can see, golf is a very diverse game, so it’s quite hard to get bored with it. These are just some of the most popular types of golf competitions and scoring systems, but there are many others that you can try out!
